Getting to Know Victor Dew
Born, June 8, 1990, in Hayward, CA, Victor grew up with the dream of becoming a Marine, which was reinforced after the attacks on 9/11, at the age of 11. After moving to Granite Bay in 2002, Victor became involved with the JET program of Roseville, graduated Olympus Jr. High School 2004 and Granite Bay High School 2008.
Starting at the age of 6 in Hapkido Martial Arts, Victor continued his passion of the arts by earning his Black Belt in Zen Bodukai Aiki Ju-jitsi before graduating high school. He played football for the Granite Bay Grizzlies for 2 years and worked at 2 local major retail stores for 3 years before entering the US Marine Corps in the fall of 2009 as a 2nd Degree Black Belt.
Victor’s love for his family, massive hugs, sense of humor, contagious laughter, willingness to take the time to listen to his friends or help in any way possible, and his ability to maintain strength and calmness are traits that describe him.
Turning down an offer of Presidential Honor Guard, Victor held to his convictions of keeping America's shores safe, and became an Anti-Tank Missile man, responsible for the M220E4 TOW Weapon System and M98A1 Javelin Weapons System. During his first deployment, Victor and 3 brother Marines were killed instantly when their MATV was struck by an IED during “Operation Enduring Freedom” in the Sangin Valley of Afghanistan.
Posthumously promoted to Lance Corporal, October 13, 2010, Victor Dew became the first graduate of Granite Bay High School to be Killed in Action in service to this great nation.
